Gerd Maria May has tried to sit in most situations as a journalist. Over the past ten years she has been in management positions focusing on editorial development. Gerd has worked as head of editorial development in one of Denmark's biggest media companies, Jysk Fynske Medier. Before that she was head of digital development at the danish mediacompany Fynske Medier. She has also worked as a journalist in radio, tv, newspaper and digital.
Gerd has primarily worked with local media focusing on making journalism relevant to the people in the communities the media is covering. She is doing that by developing journalism into being engaging and solutions oriented. She has developed a model for how journalism can develop in this direction.
The model is called STEP. It stands for Solutions, Trust, Engagement and Perspective. She has written a textbook about this model, called; “From Tower to Square”. The book is now on the curriculum at the Danish journalism schools. As a Fellow at the Constructive Institute at Aarhus University,
Gerd has been involved in research in constructive journalism. In addition, as a lecturer in journalism, she has taught at the Center for Journalism at the University of Southern Denmark and a variety of continuing education courses. Gerd Maria May also functions as a key note speaker, consultant, lecturer at universities, postgraduate courses, and media companies and is today the owner of the consulting firm Room of Solutions.
